Can A Christian Have Demons?

demonsThe topic of demons seems to be quite controversial among Christians, which is very surprising considering that the Bible mentions demons 70 times. If you believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, then you should believe that demons and demonic oppression are very real and something that every Christian needs to learn about. The Bible makes it clear that we have a very real enemy – Satan. He is out to get us and he starts when we are young. He will not go easy on us because we are little; he will pull out all of the stops and do whatever it takes to destroy us, kill our relationship with God, and steal our hope and joy. It is his sole mission here on earth.

I have been told that it is impossible for a Christian to have demons. There is a school of thought out there that says if you have the Holy Spirit you cannot possibly have demons. The Holy Spirit cannot be near evil at all. If that were true then we would never sin again once we accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. If God Himself cannot stand to be anywhere near evil, then why is Satan allowed into His throne room? If the Holy Spirit cannot be near demons, then why when Jesus came upon people who were being tormented by demons, did the demons not immediately run away or leave the person at His presence? Instead the demons addressed Jesus and asked Him what He wanted with them!

Why does the Bible not specifically state a Christian can have a demon? The Bible is clear about this matter actually. Jesus, His disciples and the Apostles cast out demons time and time again in the New Testament. These people were all children of God, exactly as we are, with the exception that they had yet to receive the Holy Spirit. They were not called Christians because the term Christian was not coined until around A.D. 70 in Antioch. The first Christians were actually Jews. Christians experiencing demonic oppression are not limited to the New Testament either. In the Old Testament we read about King Saul who was tormented by evil spirits many times. This evil spirit caused King Saul to try on several occasions to kill David and to wreak havoc around him.

For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.

Galations 5:17

What exactly are demons? Are they the same as evil spirits? There are different theories to what demons are but most likely they are the fallen angels Satan took when him when he fell to earth. They are most certainly his faithful servants who live to do his evil work to cause harm to all humans here on earth. Demons and evil spirits are the same thing. Demons have many disguises in which they try to deceive humans. They come in the form of aliens, dead relatives who speak to us, ghosts, imaginary friends, and the dead who speak through Ouija boards or mediums. The Bible makes it clear once you die you have no consciousness and no ability to communicate any longer. If you have seen a ghost or have talked to a dead relative, you are being tricked by a demon or familiar spirit. You have allowed demons into your life and this is dangerous. You need to seek help from God in getting rid of them and cutting off the rights you have given them to your life.

How can you know if you have demons? I really hate to say this, but chances are pretty good that most Christians do have demons. How does a person let a demon in? There are several ways in which we let demons in. 1) through sin – past or present,  2) through generational and ancestral curses, 3) inviting them in through movies/TV/games/music that are demonic, 4) abuse and/or trauma and 5) being involved with witchcraft of any kind, including the occult, new age and more. These are the most common ways that we let demons in. Once you open up the door to the demonic and agree with it, you have given it rights to stay. Which it will do until the rights get broken and it gets kicked out. With generational and ancestral curses you don’t even have to give it rights – someone else in your family line already has, and it will affect every generation under you.

What most Christians don’t know, and what is rarely talked about in the church, is that deliverance and healing are a must for every person that comes to Jesus Christ. Whether you have been a Christian since a child, or came to Him as an adult, we all have wounds, trauma, and pain that needs to be healed. It could be something that seems small like divorce or verbal abuse from a parent, or something bigger like sexual abuse or drug use. Demons love to ride on pain and trauma and the beliefs that we accept through these kind of situations. If you are verbally abused as a child and told you are stupid, worthless, and never going to amount to anything, you begin to believe these lies and demons use them to attach to you. These lies cause deep roots in you as time goes on, and bury themselves so the belief is so strong that you don’t even remember the events that led to it. You just know you are stupid and worthless. The demons use this belief to wreak havoc in your life and relationships. This is just one of the many ways that demons can use pain and trauma to cause you great harm.

A man in the crowd called out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child.  A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him.  I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.” “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.” Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the impure spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father.

Luke 9:38-42

What is deliverance? Deliverance is when you use the authority of Jesus Christ to remove or cast our demons from within your personal being. Demons can attach themselves to you on the inside or the outside. They cannot be where your spirit is if you are a Christian, that is where the Holy Spirit lives. They can be just about everywhere else though. A Christian cannot be possessed, because that means you are being controlled by the demon. That is not possible thanks to the power of the Holy Spirit. Deliverance is for Christians, not for those who haven’t accept Jesus as Savior. If you do not have the Holy Spirit and try to remove demonic oppression, the demons will just come back in full force. There is nothing keeping them out. If you have the Holy Spirit and break the rights and kick them out, they cannot come back. That doesn’t mean they won’t try!

There are some common signs of the presence of demons inside of you. Here is a list of some of the problems that can be attributed to demonic oppression.

stuck in sinful behavior that cannot be stopped no matter how hard you try

chronic pain that has no relief, such as back pain or headaches

chronic diseases such as fibromyalgia or cistic fibrosis

eating disorders of all kinds

suicidal tendencies or fascination with death

any kind of addiction, including pornography, drugs, alcohol, etc.

uncontrollable moods that can’t be explained, such as always being angry, sad or anxious

inability to read the Bible or pray; feeling disconnected from God

hearing or seeing strange entities; demons, dead relatives, animals that follow you, voices in your head

Feeling tired all the time or unable to stay awake, especially during church or Bible study time

These are just some of the many ways that demons can affect your life. This does not mean every one of these things is demonic. There is no absolutes here. This is just to give you an idea and an understanding of the basics of demonic oppression and why deliverance is necessary and important for all believers. Deliverance is the first step to healing. Once you go through a deliverance session, then you can begin to heal inside pain and trauma that have been stored up during your life. Without deliverance, healing does not come as easily or completely.

There are many types of deliverance. As a new believer I knew I had serious problems because I was always angry for no reason, began to feel disconnected to God and then had an unexplainable sickness that I could not cure no matter what. I had so many prayer sessions from many people who I looked up to as prayer warriors or had the gift of healing and I never could get complete relief, if any at all. I was tired of suffering an knew there was more to life as a Christian than being miserable. Christ has promised us victory and freedom here and now. I knew I should be able to experience it, but could not. Finally I found a deliverance ministry that goes for the head demon inside of a person. Once you get to the head demon and break it’s rights, you can kick him out and all the minions underneath it as well. Otherwise you can keep kicking demons out, but the head demon can bring more minions in because he is still there.

When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.  Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.  Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.

Matthew 12:43-45

There is nothing to fear in the face of demonic oppression in any way. Jesus has defeated Satan and has him under His foot. As believers Jesus has given us power and authority over the devil and his dark forces as well. We just need to first accept that they are indeed working to destroy us, then we need to find out how they are doing it so we can stop it. Any person can do deliverance on themselves if they so desire. If you pray earnestly and ask God to help you, the Holy Spirit can guide you through deliverance. Some people will have very few and some will have many. It does not matter how demonized you are, because no one is out of reach of the hand of God. Truly it is God Himself that does the deliverance and it is only guided by humans. It is only by His power and Jesus name that we are freed and released from demonic oppression.

freeIf you suspect demonic oppression in your life, then I say rejoice. Yes, rejoice. The first step to deliverance is knowing you have a problem! So praise the Lord. Many people cannot even believe they could have demons (mostly because the demons inside them are convincing them so they can continue to stay!) so they cannot reach out for help. Getting help is the second step. You are not alone. Whatever pain, ailment, or other problems you are experiencing right now, GOD HAS NOT ABANDONED YOU! He knows your pain and He is right there with you. He has not relegated you to a life of suffering, but of freedom! He has brought you here to this place right now so that He can begin to walk with you in freedom from this bondage. This is the first step and He is going to continue with you in this journey until He has given you full restoration!! Believe it! Do not give up. No matter how hopeless it may seem or how hard or how many obstacles come in your way, do not give up! God has not given up on you!!

And just know, that whatever the devil has done in your life is for a good reason. You have a calling on your life! You have work to do for the Kingdom of God. The devil knows this and he will stop at nothing to keep you from doing God’s work. Take heart in this and know that the devil cannot stop you, unless you allow him. Stand up and fight, and if you are too weak, then ask God to fight for you. He will hold you up with His mighty hand until you are strong enough to fight side by side with Him. If you have any questions or need prayer, please feel free to contact me! Be blessed!

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

Is Christmas A Pagan Holiday?

ChristmasI grew up in a home where we celebrated a “traditional” Christmas every year. My parents and I would go into the hills and cut down a tree at a Christmas tree farm. We would bring it home and put it in the Christmas tree stand and then decorate it with glass ornaments, tinsel, colored lights, and a star at the top. We would meet with my grandparents and other extended family and share a meal and exchange gifts. My dad would put on a record of old Christmas music and I would sing along. My sister and I would wake up early on Christmas morning and wait for my dad to tell us we could come out of our room. We were giddy with excitement when we saw the beautifully wrapped presents under the tree, and the stockings filled to the brim with treats. I have many found memories of Christmas as a child. There is just something about the nostalgia of the traditions of Christmas that warm my heart.

It was not until I was a young adult and I became heavily involved in the occult and witchcraft that I changed some of my opinions about Christmas. I did not grow up as a Christian and I don’t remember talking about Jesus on Christmas very often. I remember a beautiful nativity scene my mother would set out every year, one that I would lovingly play with. I can’t really say whether I understood what the nativity was really all about. As a child there was more talk about the birth of baby Jesus being born on TV, so it was something that was a part of my small world. But I doubt the meaning of it registered with me, the way it does now.

As a pagan or witch, Christmas lost most of it’s meaning to me as I traded it in for Yule or Winter Solstice. As a pagan, most of the traditional holidays (except Halloween) were not celebrated or important. As I studied more about the ancient roots of paganism and the traditions that it brought into our world, I began to have more disdain for Christians. It turns out that Christians stole all of their holidays and celebrations from pagans. So the Roman Catholic church tried to take Winter Solstice celebrations, a deep and meaningful night of celebration, and tried to change it to celebrate their God instead. In doing so they hoped to convert the pagans to Christians. It wasn’t just Christmas/Winter Solstice they were trying to use to convert pagans, but also Easter. I was absolutely sickened by the audacity of these Christians. I had never liked them before because I found them judgmental hypocrites, but this just took the cake. As a pagan, the ancient roots of our ancestors were of the utmost importance to me. And I was determined to learn more about the truth of paganism so I could uphold these ancient traditions.

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Romans 1:21

Winter Solstice is not actually on December 25th, so I did end up celebrating both, because my parents still celebrated Christmas. It was hard to completely walk away from Christmas without pushing away my family during that season. So as angry as I was about the Christmas rip-off, I still celebrated it, but knowing the truth of where it came from at least. Winter Solstice is a few days before, and it is the longest night of the year. It was a time to celebrate the birth of the sun god and the changes in the earth. The nights are long and the days shorter up until the Solstice, but now the nights would be getting shorter and the days longer. It was symbolic when paired with the birth of the sun god and the changes he brought to the earth. You light a Yule log and let it burn all night long, to represent the rising of the sun god.

As I got older and my life changed, I stopped actively practicing witchcraft, but did not stop my beliefs. I still reminded myself about the ancient traditions and roots of paganism and studied them when I had time. I still added in some practices where I could. But as my life changed in many ways, I gravitated more towards traditional Christmas celebrations again, to give my children the same traditions I had while growing up. I did teach them about Winter Solstice and some of the origins of it, because it was important to me. I wanted them to have an understanding. I never taught them about Jesus or His birth, because it meant nothing to me, except a lie to trick pagans. So when my husband and I came into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, you can see why I had some conflict about celebrating Christmas. I understood the pagan roots of Christmas and I had never used Christmas to glorify any god except the ones I previously believed in.

My husband and I prayed a lot that first year and what we took away was a great lesson. Simplify what we had been doing for Christmas. Which for us was huge. Previously we were going broke giving our kids gifts that we could not afford and glorifying Santa. We started teaching our kids about giving instead of receiving by supporting ministries such as Operation Christmas Child and Angel Tree and spent much less on our children. I was worried that we were doing something wrong by celebrating Christmas, especially after being so convicted about Halloween. I prayed fervently along with my husband and felt that God indeed wanted us to continue to celebrate Christmas.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

I have heard many Christians say that it is wrong to celebrate Christmas, because it is a pagan holiday. This statement in itself is not accurate. Christmas was never a pagan holy day. Yes, it is derived from a pagan holy day, but Christmas was never celebrated by pagans. Christmas  does have many traditions that are from pagan practices. But so do many other things we do in this world. For instance, did you know wedding rings are pagan? There is nowhere in scripture that talks about wearing wedding rings. This tradition comes from ancient Rome, as do many of the other practices of weddings we use today. Funerals are also pagan, and come from the ancient Egyptians. Flowers for the grace, embalming and more, and based on the belief that the body was going on into the afterlife. Our U.S. money has pagan symbols on it. Some coins have the goddess Liberty on them. Calendars are also pagan, as well as the names of the days of the weeks and months. Church steeples are also pagan in origin, coming from the phallic obelisk of fertility gods from ancient Egypt. And don’t get me started on the pagan idol worship in the Catholic Church. I could keep writing pages about the many things that we have adopted from paganism. It started back in Rome when Constantine the first Christian Emperor in Rome came into power and gave Christians the rights to freely worship God and believe in Jesus openly. Many pagan customs and traditions were adopted into Christianity and have stuck for centuries.

If we stop celebrating Christmas, because it is pagan, then what else are you willing to stop participating in because it’s pagan or rooted in paganism? You would need to leave just about everything in this world behind  and go live outside of society in the woods if that were the case. It would be impossible to completely remove paganism from our lives. The point is not to remove paganism from our lives, but to walk with the Spirit of God, letting Him teach you what His will is. Yes, there are many things in this world we need to remove from our lives, such as TV and media that promotes violence and sexual immorality. That is truly more offense to the Spirit of God then celebrating Christmas. I have also seen the Hebraic Roots movement where they teach not to celebrate Christmas, but to celebrate Hanukkah instead. Hannukkah is not a Biblical mandate and we are not Jewish, so there is no reason that we need to trade in one for the other. If you want to celebrate Hannukkah over Christmas, that is your choice, but don’t do it with the idea that you are glorifying God in one more than the other. We are told to live as sacrifices to God, and to glorify Him in everything we do. We are also told not to make another brother stumble by our judgments of each other. If a Christian celebrates Christmas and glorifies our Lord Jesus in this way, then who are you to tell them they are wrong and practicing paganism? We are to live in unity and peace, and to encourage and love one another.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 12:1

This brings me to the next argument from the opposite side, that it is OK to celebrate Halloween, because it is a perfectly innocent and fun day and it is no longer pagan. Please do not compare Christmas and Halloween. That is like comparing a murder to a birth. They are total opposites. Halloween is a not just rooted in paganism, it is actually a high holy day for Satanists and witches. Christmas is not a holy day for pagans, but simply another day on the calendar to them. Halloween is a time when witchcraft is at an all time high, and human sacrifices are being performed. It is a celebration of death and evil. Christmas is not about any of those things, and neither is it’s counterpart, Winter Solstice. Much like Christmas, winter solstice celebrates light, hope and joy – except it is just misconstrued into a celebration of false gods and earth worship. Although during December there is a higher level of witchcraft than some other times, because of the witches celebrations and rituals during this time.

So this begs the questions, is Christmas evil, and is it wrong to celebrate it? No, Christmas is not evil. There is nothing evil about the day of Christmas or any of the pagan traditions that come along with it. It is a day where families get together with love and gratitude and exchange presents. It is a season where people are geared toward serving others and are willing to open up their pocket books and give to the needy. Compassion is at an all time high and we open our doors to friends and neighbors who would otherwise be alone on Christmas. We spend an entire month focusing on doing good for others and spreading love and joy. Of course there is always the other side of commercialism, but that doesn’t take away from what you can do with Christmas. This isn’t the time to say, what can Christmas do for me, but instead, what can I do for Christmas? I can use Christmas to honor my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I can humble myself and serve those in need around me. I can reach out and give even when I have little. I can talk about the Good News of Jesus Christ, because Christmas is all about Him! I can bring light into the darkness of the winter by shining the light of the Holy Spirit inside of me.

treeI do not need to do these things with Santa Claus, stockings, reindeer and things that have little to nothing to do with Jesus. But giving gifts is a beautiful thing, and it is very appropriate I feel, because our Father is a good Father who loves to spoil His children. We deserve nothing from Him, yet He gives us so many blessings and gifts in abundance! The best gift of all being His one and only Son! Who came into this world as a helpless baby, making Himself nothing so He could give us an inheritance! Who wouldn’t want to spend an entire season focusing on the selflessness and humility of Christ and His birth? Who cares if He wasn’t born in December – we don’t really know for sure. But what I do know is that the entire world in one way or another is celebrating Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ, Savior of the World. So why should I shun Christmas because of paganism in the traditions and push away friends and family? That would cause a huge division in a time of hope and joy and unity.

If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.  And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end.

Mark 3:24-26

Division is not of God. Our God is a God of community. God Himself is community as the Holy Trinity. He wants us to partake in community and fellowship. The devil wants to divide us and keep us alone. If we stop celebrating Christmas we are dividing ourselves from the church as a whole, our friends and family that celebrate. for most of December, because that is how long Christmas is celebrated. It is an entire season. Wouldn’t the devil just love to keep Christians from celebrating a holiday that was all about Jesus Christ?? Of course he would! He can convince some Christians to celebrate a satanic holy day such as Halloween, and others to not celebrate a holiday for Jesus. That is absolutely backwards! Enjoy the Christmas season by first asking God how He wants you to celebrate it. You may need to strip some of the things from it that He is displeased with, or you may need to add in new traditions of serving others. The most important thing is to be in connection and intimacy with God, loving Him and honoring Him above all. I am going to continue to write about Christmas as the Spirit leads, as I feel there is more to be said on this subject. Be blessed brothers and sisters!

And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Matthew 2:11

Finding Intimacy with Jesus

intimacyWhen I first gave my life over to God I was learning so much about Jesus Christ and who He is. I had heard the term “having a personal relationship with Jesus” but I wasn’t really sure what that meant. How can you have a relationship with someone you can’t actually see or hear? It was very confusing to me. Yet my heart cried out for more of God. I wanted desperately to be able to see and hear Him and know Him on a personal level. I didn’t see how that was even possible. That is until I had my first intimate encounter with Jesus.

For most of my life I was very depressed. I remember being very new to Christianity and sitting on the couch weeping uncontrollably because sadness has swept over me like a northern wind. I wanted nothing more than for Jesus to be there holding me. And then suddenly He was. All it took was opening myself to the possibility that it could be so. I felt comfort wash over me. His love became so real in that moment, and I knew that Jesus really was there, holding me and comforting me. This experience revolutionized my intimacy with Jesus. Once I had but a taste of that kind of intimacy with Him, I wanted more, more, more!

I have been very hurt in my past. I was abused and felt abandoned by God. So even as a child I began building up a wall around myself, so I could be protected from being hurt. Unfortunately I was also blocking out the love of God trying to penetrate through to me. God is a gentlemen, and He does not barge His way in. He waits for us to ask Him to come in, and only then does He invade our heart and mind. It took me a long time before I was ready to let down some walls and let in God, but once I did I have never regretted it. It has only led me to healing all of the pain and damage that has been done through my life. Little by little the walls come down, and I am able to know my Lord more and more. Intimacy with God is the most wonderful thing in the world. We do not have to wait until we go to heaven to have Jesus – we can have Him right now!!

My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.

Psalm 27:8

As I look around the church, I fear that many Christians do not have an intimacy with God. They have not experienced Him personally and may not even realize they can. It is very easy to get caught up in the distractions of the world and not realize that you have made God your second best. I often wonder how many people are teaching their children how to live a life with God, not just for Him. When we focus on living our life for God, we might get caught up in justifying ourselves through our good works. We must also partner with Jesus, hand in hand, so that we can really know Him and His amazing love for us. Jesus said we would do even greater things that he did – that is going to happen through intimacy and fellowship with our Lord.

How many people are sending their children to church every Sunday and letting the Sunday school teacher do all the work of teaching their children about Jesus? Do they talk about God at home? Do they read the Word of God to them and pray with them? Do they help them to foster intimacy with our Lord Jesus? Do they do these same thing for themselves, modeling it for their children? Or do they get caught up in the ways of the world, and forget about the passion they once had for God. If they ever had it in the first place. It is never to late to have a passion for God. He is graciously extending His hand to you for intimacy, with no condemnation whatsoever. He longs for you; earnestly desires to sit and talk with you. He already knows the deepest desires of your heart. Do you know His?

God is calling you out right now, and asking you to be still and bend a listening ear to Him. Find a quiet place to get comfortable and begin to know intimacy with your Father. You can sit or kneel, or whatever you find to be best. Close your eyes and begin to praise God. Praise Him for being Holy and Perfect and True. Praise Him for loving you and for Jesus shedding His blood on the cross for you. Praise Him for creating our beautiful world and giving us so many wonderful blessings. Praise Him for how amazing and wonderful He is; slow to anger, abounding in love, full of grace and mercy. Praise Him for calling you sons and daughters of the Most High God.

I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

2 Corinthians 11:2

Praise and worship invites God right into the room and your heart. Tell Him you are sorry for not being available in this relationship with Him. Thank Him for always being available for you, and for not looking down on you for walking away from intimacy with Him. Ask Him to come in and invade your heart and mind in that very moment. Ask Him to release His power right where you are. Ask Him to fill you with His love. Tell Him that you desire Him. More of Him. Then sit and be still, and quiet. Allow your senses to be flooded with His holy presence. Do not fear things that you may see or feel. You may begin to have visions or have a supernatural experience. You may not understand some of the things that happen. Just relax and let God work in you. Ask Him what He is showing you or telling you. If you fear it is not of God, then ask for confirmation from Him, and if it lines up with who God tells us He is in scripture.

As you sit during this quiet time, imagine what it would be like if Jesus was right there with you. What does He look like? I love the description in Revelation that says He has eyes like blazing fire and feet like bronze glowing in a furnace. He is powerful and majestic! If Jesus were with you in that very moment, what would He be doing? Would He sit next to you? Hold His hand out to you? Embrace you? Open yourself to His presence fully. What does He have to say to you? Embrace this moment of intimacy with the one that who died for you.

God wants to invade your life in a powerful way through this amazing intimacy with Him. We were created as spiritual beings in a physical shell. We need to remember that the spiritual realm is all around us, and we are a part of it. If we ignore it and pretend it’s not real, we are missing out on an amazing intimacy with God that we were created for. God made us to experience the supernatural, but we relegate Him to that which we can understand in our own limited minds. Growing intimacy with Jesus everyday does not have to take hours. You could start with just 10 minutes a day! I guarantee you that once you begin to experience God in a very real way, 10 minutes will not be nearly long enough! You will begin to long for intimacy with Him, just like He is longing for you!

I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.

Philippians 3:8

During times I have sat down alone with Jesus, I have had many wonderful experiences. I have seen Jesus Christ Himself, and felt His great love. I have grown my intimacy with Him, which has allowed me to hear His voice more clearly. I have doubted and wondered if the things I was seeing or experiencing were real, but I had scriptural confirmation on all of my experiences. I told my husband how to invite Jesus in to sit with Him during His quiet time, and he too was revolutionized in His intimacy with Jesus Christ. He saw Jesus come and sit right next to Him on the couch. He felt His presence and heard Him speak to Him. My husband has such a wonderful intimacy with God, he can clearly hear His voice when he talks to Him. This is not something that just some people can experience. You don’t have to be special, or well versed in the Bible or have been a Christian for a long time. This intimacy with God is for everyone! We are all sons and daughters of the King and are welcome into the very throne room of God! It is up to us to make the first move and invite Him into our lives.

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:20

strongholdIf you have tried growing intimacy with God, but can’t see improvement, there is something much bigger going on that just distractions of the world. If you find that no matter what you can’t hear God or feel God, you need to start looking inside to see if you have built a wall up. You may also be dealing with demonic oppression. Satan looks to steal us away from intimacy with God and kill our desire for Him. If you find yourself unable to read the Word of God or unable to understand it, you are looking at demonic oppression. If you cannot sit still and praise Him and wait on His presence, that is another sign of demonic oppression. Look at the life of Jesus Christ. It was full of intimacy with God the Father. He would often steal Himself away to pray and talk with His Father. We were created to have this same intimacy with God, so if you cannot find it no matter what you do, that is a sign that the devil has gotten a stronghold in you.

Strongholds are more common than you think. It is all to easy to fall prey to the ways of. the devil. Some of us let him in through past sins, and some let him in through current sins. Sometimes we also have generational and ancestral curses over our families, which bring strongholds into our lives. Jesus always has a way out of these strongholds, and always wants to bring us healing, so we can grow in our intimacy with Him. Never stop striving to grow your intimacy with Jesus Christ. He is within you and you have the power to rebuke the devil and his devices in your life. Stand firm against him and pray for God to give you wisdom on what brought the demonic oppression into your life. (I will be writing more about how to fight this very soon.)

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Is The Bible A Book Of Rules?

BibleWhen I first became Christian about 2.5 years ago I started reading the Bible right away. I have to admit my husband and I didn’t go about it quite the right way. Once we started going to church  it took time for God to start helping us make positive changes in our lives. One of those changes that was yet to be made was our addiction to smoking pot. So the first time we actually sat down to read the Bible we were high on pot and tried reading the KJV. As you can imagine it made very little sense to us at that moment. Yet we did not give up! We sat there for about an hour trying to read and make sense of the first chapter of Genesis. We deeply wanted to know what God had to say! We were just still bound to sin and death and had yet to experience freedom from drug addiction. God is much bigger than even that, and He can touch anyone, no matter where they are or what they are doing!

While we did smoke pot, it was not a daily thing for us anymore. So it was not a normal hindrance between us and the Word of God. A friend recommended to me to read a different version of the Bible, such as the NLT or the Message, and to start with the Gospel of Matthew instead. So we went out and bought 2 new Message Bibles (I would very loosely call these a Bible since they are paraphrased versions of the Bible). Yes God can truly speak to anyone through any version of the Bible, or in any way He chooses to for that matter. I opened up that Message Bible and started reading Matthew, and I could not put it down. I had never really known much about Jesus – He was just that guy in the white robe with long hair. But now I began to see the beauty and love in Jesus and I fell madly in love with Him. I was amazed and in awe at Jesus – where had He been all my life!!

From there I grew a great passion to learn more about God’s Word. I wanted very much to know what God had to say to me and I saw the Bible as a great guidebook for life. I felt that it held the keys to every question I had every asked during my life, like what am I here for and why do I exist? Some of the Bible was very complicated and confusing for me, but some of it spoke to me in wonderful ways. Soon I was moving up to reading the NLT version and my Message Bible was gathering dust on it. I would recommend the Message for anyone who is very new to the Bible and has a hard time understanding it, because truly God can teach you His truth through it. It’s like training wheels, but that does not mean everyone needs to use training wheels before learning to ride!

So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith.

Galatians 3:24

The more I read of the Bible the more I began to be confused in some ways. It seemed that in the Old Testament God was mean and harsh but in the New Testament Jesus was loving and wonderful for the most part. I also read many of the letters from the Apostle Paul and felt that there were many rules to live by as a Christian. Rules on how to act and not act and how to dress, rules about sex, alcohol, money, and so much more. At that point the Holy Spirit had done a mighty work in me and I had done a complete 180 on how I was living my life – no more drugs, drinking, swearing, or watching horror on TV and that was just the start. So I felt pretty good about myself as I read the Bible as a list of rules to follow. If reading the Bible were like taking a test I would be getting a really good grade!

That just led me to start dissecting the lives and behaviors of everyone around me. If the Holy Spirit was convicting me to make changes, then surely He would be doing the same for all other Christians. As I looked around I just saw Christians living a life that seemed very contrary to the Bible though. It confused me and pained me at the same time. Why was I so convicted to make changes while the other Christians at my church were watching TV shows with horror, violence and sexual immorality? Didn’t they understand  they were going against God’s Word? So it became very easy for me to be judgmental towards my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. It was not that I wanted to judge people – I truly wanted to love them and be like Christ. I just couldn’t get past the rule bending going on everywhere around me.

I grew up in a very strict household. If I broke a rule I got a very harsh punishment, no matter how small the rule was. So I learned quickly to assimilate and follow the rules. It became quite important for survival you could even say. So when I began to see the Bible as a rule book for life it was very important for me to be sure to keep straight and follow them as best I could, lest God punish me for breaking them. I wanted very much to please God and do what was right in His eyes. What I didn’t understand was that unconditional love God gives to all of His children, no matter how far they stray from Him. He is the most amazing father that way.

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

John 1:17

It went on this way for about two years, that is until I had my deliverance from demonic oppression this past summer. During my deliverance session I found out the many ways the devil had gotten rights and access to me during my life, and even before I was even born through previous generations. Through ancestral and generational curses the devil had been able to cause me many problems and pain during my life with demonic oppression. There are many types of demons and each has its own job. One of the demons that was oppressing me was a religious spirit. A religious spirit’s job is to keep people from having a close relationship with God, but instead seeing Christianity as a set of rules to follow. Here are some signs that you might have a religious spirit:

You judge others by their appearance, you try to earn God’s love and salvation, you always criticize other people’s walks with God, you desire position and honor in church over honor with God, you have an outward lifestyle of Christianity but inwardly have not changed, and you are involved in ministry but have no passion for God.

If you struggle with any of these problems, you most likely are suffering from demonic oppression at the hands of a religious spirit. Since I had my deliverance and am free from demonic oppression my walk with God and my understanding of the Bible has changed greatly. I no longer see the Bible as a set of rules, but am gaining a new freedom in my relationship with God. My deliverance partnered with inner healing to help with my past pain and trauma has allowed me to see God not as a task master and ruler setter, but as a loving Father who adores me and wants me to just be close to Him. God has not written the Bible to tell us how to act or how to be, but He has written the Bible as a testimony of His love for us.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

Romans 8:14

freedomI believe wholeheartedly that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, but I know that when man reads the Bible, it is his own interpretation that he is getting, unless he is led by the Holy Spirit when reading it. That is not to say that I did not have the Holy Spirit before my deliverance, but the demonic oppression was keeping me from full revelation of the Word of God as I read it. The devil would love nothing more than to keep God’s people down by having them believe the Bible is a set of rules that are impossible to follow and we are doomed to fail and displease God. That way we would not want to read the Bible and would not want to follow God. It is seeing the Bible as a set of rules that has caused many people to condemn non-believers and tell them they are going to hell, which only turns them away from God and straight into the arms of some other “religion” such as New Age and Witch Craft. It is seeing the Bible as a rule book that has caused many people to see it as outdated and not practical for this day and age, causing them to fall prey to the deceptions of the world that led us to sin and death.

It is recently as I was reading Galatians again that I came to a wonderful revelation of a life lived by the Spirit. When we live by the Spirit we produce the fruits of a spirit filled life, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, and self-control. Believe it or not I thought the fruits of the Spirit were more rules to be lived by! Now I see that I was constrained by trying to live life by the law, which left me to be enslaved to it! I was trying to be justified by works and by pleasing God, but it was impossible to do. I believe this is a common trap that many fall prey to, and I hope that if you see yourself in these words, that you would seek to get help to be free from this oppression.

For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Human Spirits and Astral Travel

human spiritsAs I write this it is October 31st, or more commonly known as Halloween. I am sitting in my room to type this post out at 8:30 pm as my husband puts the kids to bed. The window is open and all I can hear are screams of children and roars of an adult man who is scaring them. There is also the clamor of children as they rush from house to house looking for a sweet handout. At dusk our neighbors all began to set up their decorations – a grave yard with bones, giant ghosts and bats, rows of skulls, a life-size zombie and more. Just horrible to see out my window. There is a peace that has settled over my house finally, Praise the Lord.

I saw this because less than an hour ago our house was in chaos, being attacked by spiritual darkness. What does spiritual attack look like in our house? Well I am married to a wonderful Godly man, and we have four sons. Two elementary age and two teens. It started just after dusk as the Halloween decorations were up and the children began their descent into our neighborhood. We do family Bible study after dinner at the table. My two younger children began acting out – not to abnormal in itself – but their behavior began to escalate. They began to refuse to listen to anything my husband or I said and became completely defiant. Then they began to act completely wild and out of control, running around, screaming, hurting each other and more. I began to feel this unexplainable feeling of fear and sadness wash over me. One of my teens started yelling at the younger kids and getting mad at me. My husband was trying to get things under control as I began to pray against witch craft.

You see as I have been sharing my testimony and standing up against Halloween the spiritual attack has been at an all time high. Satan does not want me to share my testimony, because it shows the mighty power of Jesus to save, even someone who was in the grips of Satan himself. And with my experience on Halloween as a witch, I am able to expose the truth that Halloween is a satanic holy day and shine a light onto it for the whole world to see. Many countries have been on my blog since God has elevated it for His purposes! He is bringing healing and truth to many because I have been obedient. It is not easy to put myself and my life out there for the whole world to see. Yet I do it for my King. He is Worthy!

Or ever the silver cord be loosed…Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it

Ecclesiastes 12:6-7

If you listen to my radio interview on ‘The Healing Light!’ you will not only hear my testimony, but also something really interesting that Stan told me about. He told me of another guest who can see into the spirit realm. This is a wonderful gift that God gives some as a part of discerning the spirits. He said that on Halloween night he looked up and saw hundreds of strings stretched out across the sky. These are the silver cords of human spirits. Don’t be confused by the term human spirits – it is not actually a humans spirit, but their soul. The silver cord is what connects our soul to our physical bodies and looks like a thin white/silver umbilical like cord. It is like a lifeline to the human body, and if it is cut then the person dies.

Why did the man state he saw so many silver cords in the sky that Halloween night? Because Halloween is a holy night for witches and Satanists. They do many rituals and in these rituals they do astral travel or astral projection with their human spirits. These human spirits leave their physical bodies and travel to set destinations to harass people and cause general chaos and wreak havoc. Human spirits can gather information by listening and watching people who are unaware they are there. This information can be used for further attack in the spiritual realm. Human spirits also like to harass people while they are sleeping and vulnerable. You may experience the attack like a bad dream and never be the wiser.

How can these human spirits leave their bodies and travel like this? With the power of the demonic they are able to do so. I have heard demons carry them to their destination and then back to their bodies. Their bodies are now open for demons to come in and do as they please to them, possessing them or even do things to them physically. They can also allow other human spirits who can come into their body because they are basically absent and an open door to all kinds of evil, being completely unprotected. While astral traveling, human spirits are in danger of meeting demons and other human spirits who can cause them harm. They are also in danger of having their silver cord cut, which means death.

What can human spirits do while astral traveling? They can cause distress, torment, chaos, depression and sadness. They also might cause animals to act rather strangely, as animals can sense them. As humans they are under the law of free will, and we have no authority over them. Only God has authority over human spirits, so when we are under attack from human spirits, we must ask God to send angels to come and escort them away. Tonight as we were under great spiritual attack I was praying in the Spirit. God revealed to me that the attack was coming from an army of human spirits that were trying to storm our home. As I share my testimony and preach against Halloween, I am going up against Satan himself and his high holy night. So of course he has his obedient followers ready and willing to come after me on a night where they feel their power is strongest. Human spirits were not just coming to attack me and my family, but whoever else the devil has his sights on. You can be sure if you stand up for the Truth, the devil will try to knock you down. Hard.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12

This attack went on for about an hour. I prayed against witchcraft as my husband prayed against the attacks. I prayed for God to send angels to remove human spirits before I even realized what was happening. I sent a text out to some friends and asked for prayer. The sadness and despair washed over me and I was being spent into a memory of being abused. My husband tried to pray over me and pray over the children and try to get them under control. It was pure chaos everywhere. I was scared and Satan had me right where I was weakest. Thank God for the mercy saints of Jesus Christ and their prayers. I put a post up on Facebook and had so many brothers and sisters praying for us I was in awe. Within 20 minutes the children were calm and drawing and my teen son who had been trying to get me to turn off praise music and stop praying was playing his guitar.

I cannot express enough thanks to our God and Lord Jesus Christ for the many miracles He has performed in my life. I urge every single person to always reach out in prayer in times of need and never be afraid to ask. We are bonded together as a family and need to stand firm in prayer together! When you are under heavy attack it may not look at all like what it looks like in my house. Satan hits each individual right where it hurts them most. We need to be vigilant to learn the attacks of the enemy and how to fight them. We need to always be aware because the devil is a prowling lion looking to devour. He has so many devices to come against us and we are very ignorant of many of them.

As I was praying in the Spirit during this attack God revealed to me a picture. I saw the outside of our home and many strings coming down towards it. But I saw a bubble around our house, and all the strings just bounced right off! The strings were the silver cords of all the human spirits coming to attack us. But our Lord gave us a hedge of protection to keep all these human spirits out of our house! I just know that the prayers of the saints helped to make this happen. As scripture says, when two or three are gathered together in my name, I will be there in the midst of them. Satan is very angry with me because of the strength of my testimony and he has many witches to do his bidding. Many of them may not even know what they are doing, because when you practice witchcraft you are harnessing the power of evil as you allow demons to enter you. Yet so many witches have no idea they are doing this, because they have a sincere belief they are not doing any harm to anyone. However, when you practice witchcraft you are giving your life over to the devil, whether you know it or not. It is very sad and we need to pray for these lost souls.

There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer  or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead,  for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12a

Astral travel is more common than you might think. It is not just something relegated to witches, but also for those who practice New Age religion. When I was a witch I was also very into the New Age practices as well. During that time I would do rituals that I learned from Jewish Mysticism or Kabbalah. Do not be fooled by the fact that this sounds related to Judaism it is not. It is pure witchcraft. As you practice this ritual you are actually doing astral travelling. Except when I was doing it I had no idea what I was doing. I was leaving my body and completely unaware of it! I was so fooled and naive just throwing myself into whatever looked good at the moment, yet I was completely deceived. There are many others who just as I did, are being tricked into the lies of the New Age Movement and witch craft. There are even books out right now that “guide” people on how to do astral travel safely! The devil is a huge liar and we need to always be in God’s Word so we can learn how to have discernment about what is right and true. Believe me, even Christians are being sucked into these lies.

heavenPlease do not get astral travel confused with spirit travel that is ordained by God. These human spirits are out for either a joy ride to experience higher planes of existence and spirituality or they are out to purposefully wreak havoc on unsuspecting humans. There are legitimate stories of people who have gone to heaven or been in the throne room of God, just as John did in Revelation. He had an out-of-body experience that was different from human spirits traveling through astral travel. The Apostle Paul also had a similar experience that he talks about in 2 Corinthians 12:1-4. These experiences are of God, and not human souls leaving their bodies by choice, but their actual spirits going to what Paul calls the Third Heaven, where God is.

Spiritual warfare is a very real part of a Christians life. You cannot back down from standing for the truth or being set apart in the name of Jesus Christ. The devil will always be seeking to destroy you, and if he isn’t, then I would be very worried about what you are not doing for the Kingdom of God. How can you know that it is human spirits that are attacking you? It is hard to explain what it feels like when human spirits are around. For me I have gotten used to the feeling of the presence of human spirits, and so I know when to ask the Lord to send angels to remove them. I would say if you notice distension, discord, chaos and a feeling of being really unsettled (or like you want to crawl out of your skin), disturbed or have wild emotional swings, it may very well be human spirits. As I learn more about it I will continue to share, because I feel it is very important for us to be aware of the different ways the devil seeks to attack us. Human spirits are as real as demons attacking us.

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

Luke 10:19-20
