Spiritual Terms Defined

spiritual termsIn my blog I often refer to many spiritual terms that I have found need to be clearly defined in order to get an understanding of what we are talking about. Especially terms such as witchcraft and the occult. Here I have a list of definitions of spiritual terms I commonly use for quick reference. I will add to it as needed. All definitions in italics are from dictionary.com or merriam-webster.com. All definitions under the italics are from research and experience that I am using to give more depth to the definitions of the spirituals terms.

 

 

Witchcraft

1)  the use of sorcery or magic 

2)  communication with the devil or with a familiar (spirit)

by definition in the Bible: worshiping idols (demons), necromancy (contacting dead ancestors), mediums (contacting the dead, seances), divination or fortune-tellers or omen interpreters (predicting the future), human sacrifice, animal sacrifice to idols (demons) sorcerers, wise men, enchanters, magicians, astrologers, drinking blood, cutting your body for the dead or marking your body i.e. tattoos (blood rituals), curses, spells, magic charms (cursed items), soul selling, casting spells, doing rituals.

Occult

1) of or relating to magic, astrology, or any system claiming use or knowledge ofsecret or supernatural powers or agencies. 

2) beyond the range of ordinary knowledge or understanding; mysterious.

3) secret; disclosed or communicated only to the initiated. 

4) hidden from view.

contacting dead ancestors through mediums, predicting or telling the future through psychics or fortune tellers, knowing the future, astrology and horoscopes, magic charms, astral projection, calling on the dead, channeling spirits or dead ancestors, seeing or speaking to the dead, Ouija boards, palm reading, chakras, energy reading or moving energy around or aligning energy, spirit guides or spiritists, tarot cards, crystals, yoga, I Ching, automatic writing, white magic, incantations, chanting.

anything that is included in witchcraft and Wicca, and Satanism, as well as many practices of cults, secret societies and other religions that worship false gods, such as animal sacrifice, baptizing the dead, casting spells, doing rituals, cursing people or objects, worshiping idols, summoning demons, seeing and speaking with demons.

New Age

1. of or relating to a movement espousing a broad range of philosophies and practices traditionally viewed as occult, metaphysical, or paranormal.

shamanism, mysticism, Kabbalah (Jewish Mysticism), Hinduism, Buddhism, pantheism, neo-paganism, Taoism, Gnostism, holism, I-Ching, yoga, Reiki, holistic medicine, aromatherapy, crystals, chakras, moving energy, numerology, astrology, mediums, spirit guides, tarot cards, divination, channeling

Pagan

1) one of a people or community observing polytheistic religion, as the ancient Romans and Greeks. 2) a member of a religious, spiritual, or cultural community based on the worship of nature or the earth; neo-pagans. 3) a person who is not a Christian, Jew,or Muslim; a heathen.

Paganism

1) pagan spirit or attitude in religious or moral questions. 2) the beliefs or practices of pagans.

Any religion other than Christianity or Judiasm

Astral Travel/Astral Projection

1) the act of separating the astral body (spirit or consciousness) from the physical body and its journey into the universe

using the power of witchcraft, a human is able to allow their soul to leave their  body and travel through the atmosphere

Human Spirits

human spirits (actually the human soul) leave their physical bodies and travel to set destinations to harass people and cause general chaos and wreak havoc. Human spirits can gather information by listening and watching people who are unaware they are there. Human spirits can gather information by listening and watching people who are unaware they are there. This information can be used for further attack in the spiritual realm. Human spirits also like to harass people while they are sleeping and vulnerable.

Deliverance

1) an act or instance of delivering.

2) salvation

3) liberation

being delivered from the presence of demonic spirits that are oppressing a person from the inside

Inner Healing

The process of allowing the Holy Spirit to uncover memories of pain, trauma and abuse in order to heal the soul (mind, body, will) from the affects of it.

Magic

1) a:  the use of means (as charms or spells) believed to have supernatural power over natural forces  b :  magic rites or incantations

2) a:  an extraordinary power or influence seemingly from a supernatural source  b :  something that seems to cast a spell :  enchantment

3)  the art of producing illusions by sleight of hand

Spiritual Attack

Attack:  1) to set upon in a forceful, violent, hostile, or aggressive way, with or without weapon; begin fighting with.  

2) to begin hostilities against; start an offensive against.  

3) to blame or abuse violently or bitterly.  

4) to direct unfavorable criticism against; criticize severely; argue with strongly.

 5) to try to destroy, especially with verbal abuse.

 

Demonic Oppression

Oppression: 1) the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner

 2) an act or instance of oppressing or subjecting to cruel or unjust impositions or restraints.  

3) the state of being oppressed.

4) the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions, anxiety, etc.

 

Generational Curses

Generational: “the term of years, roughly 30 among human beings, accepted as the average period between the birth of parents and the birth of their offspring.

Ancestors: a person from whom one isdescended; forebear; progenitor.

Curse:  a) the expression of a wish that misfortune, evil, doom, etc., befall person, group,etc. b) a formula or charm intended to cause such misfortune to another. c) the act of reciting such a formula.

A curse is  ill intent upon another person, released through sin, ignorance or rebellion. A generational curse is ill intent upon a family generation, or specific members of ancestry, that was released through the sin, ignorance or rebellion of previous ancestors.
