Many of us suffer from an identity crisis. We have completely forgotten our Biblical identity. We take up the identity of the enemy because we believe his lies over God’s truth. We also take on identity from the roles we play in this life. Parent, spouse, friend, co-worker, business owner, etc. become our identity instead of who God actually says we are. None of the roles we play or jobs we hold define us, they are simply one small facet of who we are.
When we use shame, pain, or self-hate to define ourselves, we are agreeing with the devil and we are cursing ourselves. We must continually repeat the truth of who we are in Christ to ourselves so that we can continue the process of sanctification. If you want to thrive in this world then you must do it as the God-given identity bestowed upon you before time began.
Whenever I am walking in my flesh, I feel horrible. I make poor decisions and I don’t take care of myself. I let other people walk all over me and I drift farther from God. One sure way to move out of our flesh and connect with the Spirit is to speak these Biblical identity declarations over yourself daily. I have compiled a short list to make it easy to memorize. The more you repeat it the more God’s truth hides in your heart.
I am made in the image of God. Genesis 1:27
I am a new creation in Christ. 2 Corinthian 5:17
I am a son/daughter of God. Galatians 3:26
I am not condemned. Romans 8:1
I am set free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2
I am a chosen people to proclaim the excellencies of God. 1 Peter 2:9
I am joined as one spirit with the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:17
I am at peace with God. Romans 5:1
I have righteousness with God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
I am justified, just as if I never sinned. Romans 5:9
I can’t be separate from God’s love. Romans 8:35-39
I have eternal life through Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23
I am the temple of God’s Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19
I have been redeemed. Psalm 103:4
I am more than a conqueror. Romans 8:37

Deliverance is a process as a part of our journey of sanctification. It does absolutely help to bring relief, but it does not stop all harassment or break all connections.
